Seattle Mariners Radio Network broadcaster Aaron Goldsmith joined The Hollywood Casino Press Box Friday to preview this weekend’s Cardinals-Mariners series. Read some excerpts and listen to the interview below: You went to Principia High School? “Yep, my folks still live in Ballwin, I saw them last weekend actually…I was in town last weekend calling the Cardinals-Rangers game for FS1, so I was able to catch up with them. It was very nice because I don’t get back very often.” On Seattle’s starting rotation currently struggling: “When Felix Hernandez got injured…we really thoughts the Mariners would be able to brave the waters without Felix…but it’s been the additional injuries to the rotation that have really made things look really bleak, at least right now in terms of the rotation. We probably won’t see Felix back until after the All-Star break. Wade Miley is on the DL. Beyond that, we saw a young pitcher they just called up…(he got hurt during warm-ups). So the Mariners bullpen worked every inning in extra innings. So the Cardinals are catching them at the right time.” Do you still root for the Cardinals when you’re not calling their games? “The Cardinals will forever be my team. Mike Matheny was truly one of my favorite players growing up. I was so heartbroken when Matheny lost his job to some young kid named Yadier. I joke with Matheny about it now. I root for the Cardinals. They’re definitely my National League team.”
