SEC Country writer Oliver Connolly: Missouri’s “Air Raid” offense could make Lock a star

Oliver Connolly, a Senior Football Analyst at Cox Media who writes for SEC Country, joined The Hollywood Casino Press Box on Friday to discuss why he’s so impressed with the Missouri Tigers’ offense through three games. Listen to the interview and read a couple quotes below: You wrote an article on Drew Lock and are very bullish on him having a successful future. Why do you like him so much? “I think it’s the new system brought in by new offensive coordinator Josh Heupel. They finally brought some of the Big XII Air-Raid things to the SEC. It makes everything very simplistic for the quarterback. Drew Lock is very talented physically. I think he has some issues with the mental aspect of the game. But he’s as physically gifted quarterback as anyone in the SEC.” What type of personnel is ideal for the Air Raid offense: “You have to find as many athletes as possible. You’re trying to generate one-on-one match-ups and then you get your best athletes against their best athletes. A good part of the system is that by doing that…you don’t have (to have the best run routes), so you really are looking for quick players…and so you can overcome some of the personnel deficiencies when you’re facing a team like Georgia (who traditionally has better recruiting classes).”
